What is a logarithm? In math, a logarithm is the power that a number is raised to with the end goal of getting another number. There are logs, natural logs (ln), log properties, and a change of base formula. Natural logs are logs with a base of "e" (ln(x) –– log base "e" of "x" –– means the natural log of x). y = ln(x) is the inverse of y = e^x.
All log properties are true for natural logs. A "Common Log" is a log without a shown base, where it is by default a base of 10. |
Exponential problems can be solved using logs and logarithms can be solved using exponentials where:
The log form of the first expression is:
What is an exponential function?
An exponential function is a function where the value is a constant being raised to a power.
